Mangos sits on the Point Pedro Road in Nallur, a short walk from the Kandaswamy kovil and around the corner from Rio Ice Cream. It is a South Indian pure-vegetarian restaurant — clean, busy, well-run, and a useful counterweight to the heavier Tamil-Sri Lankan rice-and-curry register that dominates most of the peninsula's eating.
The menu is a familiar South Indian one. Masala dosa, plain dosa, paper dosa, idli, vada, uttapam, and the standard thalis at lunch. Sambhar and the coconut and tomato chutneys are made daily. The lassi and the filter coffee are good. Portions are generous, prices are modest, and the cooking is consistent across visits — which is part of what brings the regulars back.
The room is air-conditioned, brightly lit, with two floors of seating, table service, and an English-language menu. Card payment works alongside cash. It fills up at lunch — particularly between twelve and two — and again in the early evening; outside those hours the seating is easy. Service is quick.
For visitors, Mangos is the right call when you want a familiar register: a clean room, no surprises, well-cooked South Indian food, and a quiet hour after a busy morning at the temple. It is also a useful breakfast stop: dosa and filter coffee from around eight in the morning. Many guests pair it with an evening visit to the Nallur kovil and an ice cream at Rio across the street.
There is no alcohol on the menu. The kitchen is strictly vegetarian — no fish, no egg in most dishes; ask the waiter if egg-free is important to you.
